Take action
Testimony templates, call scripts, how to reach your legislators, and how to help build this open-source project. Nothing you do here is tracked.
1. Find your legislators
Use the official lookup at the Ohio General Assembly (opens the official site; we embed no lookup or geolocation).
2. Contact them
Call and email scripts tailored to each active bill will appear on the bill tracker. The general shape is:
I’m a constituent in [city]. I’m calling about [bill number]. I [support/oppose] it because [one sentence]. Please let me know where [legislator] stands.
3. Testify
Ohio committees accept proponent, opponent, and interested-party testimony. Templates with 3-minute and 5-minute versions are in progress. Until then:
- Lead with who you are and the one fact that matters most.
- Speak about the system, not your ex. Never name private individuals or children.
- End with a specific request.
4. Share your story (with consent)
This project runs entirely in public on GitHub, and there is no private intake channel yet. Please do not post your personal story, case details, or anyone’s names in a GitHub issue. Statements made to third parties can be used in litigation, so talk to your attorney first.
What helps most right now is knowledge about the system: how a local rule works in your county, where a court website moved, or which bill we’re missing. See step 6.
5. Public comment calendar
Supreme Court of Ohio rule-comment periods, ODJFS rulemaking, and JCARR dates will be listed here.
6. Help build this site
ohio-family.lawyer is an open-source community project on GitHub. You can:
- report an error or suggest a bill to track;
- verify your county’s court and child support links;
- draft a guide, a brief, or a plain-language statute summary;
- review content if you are a practitioner, mediator, clinician, or DV advocate;
- improve the code, design, or accessibility.
